Yesterday my car was running fine till I came to a stop light then it just died. I had a hard time getting it back on but when I finally did it ran like crap. I had to keep pumping gas in order for it to stay on. I couldn't just hold my foot on the gas for it to stay on. Once I got it home I changed the fuel filter but still continued. Maybe it's the fuel pump? About a week ago it was making a weird noise when I turned the ignition on and it never did that before. I had it replaced about two years ago too with an ac delco (which I really hate) along with the fuel injectors. Also, there's always a strong scent of fuel around the car when I'm trying to turn it on.

*Update*
I got it to turn on again after I unplugged a vacuum hose off of the map sensor. If I put the hose back on the map sensor the car will just die. I put a new map sensor and that wasn't the problem. Could it be the ECM defective?

when you unplugged the map sensor it went into what is called open loop. You need to see what code if any has been set. If there is no code other than 12 then it will be a basic ignition/fuel problem. On your ALDL thats the little plug below the steering column you need to cross A & B and turn the key on then count the flashes on the service engine light. 1 will flash 3 times then 2 the same that is code 12. that means everything is running ok. But then it will go into other flashes. You can then come back to the site here and look under trouble code definitions. You will need to go to OBD 1 an dit will describe the codes. You will probably have one for the map sensor already due to disconnecting the vacuum hose. I'm sure there will be others as well......
