I took it in to have the alternator changed and when I got it back the s3 light was blinking and the speedometer does not work. I checked for a code but I do not see any lights blinking on the box.

The battery had to be disconnected to replace the generator. Fuses often blow from the surge when the battery is reconnected, so check for that first.

Also look closely at the speedometer pointer to see if it's on the wrong side of the stop pin. Sometimes gauges pulse when the battery is reconnected and go past halfway. When you turn on the ignition switch they look for the shortest way back to "0", and if that's clockwise, you'll have to drive faster than half the speedometer's highest number for the pointer to synchronize.

Typically when there is a code along with the speedometer not working it means that the speed sensor is faulty. This can be checked with a multimeter.
