1985 GMC Other 85 heritage dashboard ignition

I broke the key to the ignition, then a piece was misplaced. I need to know how to disassemble the inner part of the ignition without the key. I learned that you need the key to get it to come apart. It states to use a safety pin and the original key for it to part away from the outer dashboard piece. I cannot due to key being misplaced.

The key is designed to be removed in the "on" position. If you don't have a working key, it is going to involve some precision drilling and I suggest you get a locksmith for that so you don't ruin the entire housing.

He already drilled it out just now. Is there Smyth mg we can do even if unprofessionally to be able to remove and replace it now?

If it was done correctly it will slide right out.
