1985 Ford Fiesta: after wintering for 4 months I restarted and there was no brake fluid in the resevoir. Refilled the resevoir, pumped the brakes and now I get no braking until the pedal is practically on the floor. A garage has said I need new rear brake

What are the likely problems and what would a fair repair price look like?

You have a leakage somewhere in the brake system and cost would depend on which component to repair/replace.

After topping up the fluids, you need to bleed the system to get some braking back. If leak is too bad, this would not work.
