You need to check the linkage between the key tumbler and the ignition switch on the steering column. Something sounds loose.

Let me know what you find.

Hey Feller,

I live for CJ Questions, In fact they are about the only ones I know well....(Sorry for butting in "J & N"), I seldom see these CJ Questions, for REAL JEEPS (CJs) are the BEST VEHICLES IN THE WORLD, AND HAVE FEW PROBLEMS....I HAVE TO ANSWER THEM....Its a DISEASE!!!!

PROOF: CJ 5 was built 1955-1983CJ 7 was built 1976-1986.....Investigate how many are having problems in the Forums, compared to other vehicles!!!

Besides I gotta do something--this new site re-vamp still has me confused....Rasmataz, Has been guiding me a little--but I'm still sorta lost still.

I found you a diagram of the switch

It is mounted on the "other side" of your dash, on top of the steering column.

It is difficult to get to---a small mirror might aid in seeing it---removing the plastic trim against the dash might help too.

I do not have access to these diagrams, so I'll let you see this other fellers

The switch is "Slideable" on the column "To and Fro" which "Calibrates" it to the Rod coming from the key tumbler

The switch may need slidin'--the switch may need replacin'--or the wire connection to it, might be loose

Link to diagram is below

Let us know your outcome

If you have other CJ issues, just keep on asking below---I will hang with you, however long it takes

AFTER READING YOUR MESSAGE IN "MESSAGING" I CAME BACK HERE TO SEE WHICH POST YOU WERE REFERRING TO

I HAD NO IDEA YOUR HAD REPLIED ABOVE.I STUMBLED INTO YOUR RESPONSE, BY ACCIDENT

I HATE GIVING ADVICE---OFFERING TO KEEP ASSISTING---THEN HAVE NO CLUE THEY HAVE RESPONDED AND THEY ARE NOW BEING STOOD UP BY ME. TILL I INVESTIGATE EVERY POST IN MY ARCHIVES TO SEE IF ANYTHING ANYWHERE HAS HAPPENED!

LOOKS LIKE THEY WOULD EASE OFF ON GETTING THIS SORTA NOTHING STUFF WORKING ('COURSE, IN MY LUNCH DATES WITH BILL. GATES, WE HAVEN'T DISCUSSED THE STEPS INVOLVED IN TAKING ON A TASK LIKE THIS)

AND CONCENTRATE ON GETTING POSTS MOVING TO THE TOP AND WITH SOME SORT OF HIGHLIGHTING TO SET THE RESPONDED ONES APART. FROM UNANSWERED

YOU CAN SEE, IT TAKES ME 20 MINUTES TO HUNT AND PECK THIS OUT, I FEEL SURE THEY WILL NOT CONSULT WITH ME ON HOW TO MAKE THIS SMOOTHER!

David SalsedoBY THE WAYARE YOU DRIVABLE YET?

FIND US IF YOU CAN, RIGHT HERE, TELL US WHAT YOUR EXPERIENCE AT OUR NEW SITE IS---AND HOW YOU MADE OUT----WITH/ OR WITHOUT OUR INPUT ON YOUR RIG!

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM "WILLY" (SEE PIC)

I have been doing a complete rewiring and did the slide on the engage switch but have not been able to test yet. Should be finished with the new harness this afternoon. Thanks for the good advice I think you are right on the money now that I have made the effort of finding the switch and moving it up. P.S. Sorry so slow to reply by business has me really cover till after the years end. Happy new year MEDIC!

Roger...

No need to post a new question, if you need further help, you can come back to this post, and ADD ON! (if you are looking for me)

Just helped another feller--he was not real "automotive" (according to him) This is really fun for me!

https://www.2carpros.com/questions/1980-jeep-cj7-v8-wont-start

You can also sorta search around in the CJ 5 & 7 Forums, they might help also.

Keep us informed on your progress!!!

Don't take so long next time!
