Changed Modulator, Coil, Distributer, Rotor under the cap.

Then engin had a freash rebuild in 2009 ran like new even better, then suddenly had this problem, I think it is eletrical.

Out of frustration I looked for bad wire connection and moved the wires around. Then the truck started, no hesitations, and shut off within two minutes.

I am charging my battery today. A buddy of mine are going to try to get this truck on the road this weekend.

I put too much money into this truck to let it sit in the yard. Engine is tip top, done the gears, she is a nice truck.

"MODULATOR"?

YOU MEAN IGNITION MODULE?

I'D GO WITH MAYBE TWEAKING THE CARB, (CHEAP, WON'T HURT NOTHIN'). YOU KNOW HOW.I MAY CAN HELP.

DOES THE CHOKE "PULL OFF" WHEN IT'S WARM?

I MAY HAVE A TRICK TO TRY ON IT

WILL IT RUN AND GET TO OPERATING TEMP?

WILL IT THROTTLE UP?

My Battery is charged up, I will give her a try when I get off work.

Carb is recently rebuilt, but I will try anything. I will keep you posted on my results.

I think its a grounded out wire or a bad connection, cause when I figit with it, then it fires like no hesitation.

This weekend I will put in the time, as I have put this off too long.

Thanks CJ.

OK, I thought I figured it out. I noticed that a wire from the coil to the Module was replaced before, because it was spliced. So I checked the wires condition. It was hollow and had a bad connection. So I cut into the wire to make a better connection.

The Truck fired right a way. So I moved the truck to a better place, on a cement pad.

I was going to go hunting and thought I would put eletric tape to covver the exposed wire.

Now the tuck is not starting. Now I know it is electrical, but where do I start?

NOT BUSTING OFF OR NOT TURNING OVER?

SEE IF ANYTHING IN HERE HELPS

https://www.2carpros.com/questions/1999-ford-f-150-truck-wont-start-just-makes-clicken-noise

ALSO IF IT'S RUNNING--OR NOT BUSTING OFF....IT IS SOUNDING LIKE A CONNECTION OR A SHORT......HAVE SOMEONE CRANK/ OR IF IT'S RUNNING, SHAKE YOUR WIRING AT THE SAME TIME---DO THIS IN ISOLATED SPOTS SO YOU CAN NARROW IT DOWN FAST. AROUND COIL, DISTRIBUTOR AND IGN MODULE TO BEGIN......EITHER IT BUSTS OFF OR DIES!

OTHER THAN THAT LETS GET WITH SOME BASIC TESTING---KEY "ON" (RUN) WHAT IS THE VOLTAGE AT THE POSITIVE SIDE OF THE COIL? A CHEAP DIGITAL VOLTMETER WILL DO FINE.

IF NO VOLTS--YOU CAN HAVE SOMEONE WATCH THE METER WHILE YOU SHAKE AND MOVE STUFF, TO INCLUDE JIGGLING THE KEY SWITCH, CHECK THE CONNECTION TO YOUR IGN SWITCH ALSO......IF YOUR METER COMES ALIVE WITH VOLTAGE, NARROW DOWN THE AREA YOU WERE MESSING WITH

I NEED TO KNOW IF IT'S TURNING OVER OR JUST NOT BUSTING OFF---ALSO FULL NOMENCLATURE OF TRUCK AND ENGINE---I MAY BE ABLE TO GET YOU SOME WIRE DIAGRAMS. SOMETIMES BEING THAT FAR BACK, A CAN'T.

I DO HAVE A MODIFIED EZ TO READ JEEP CJ WIRING DIAGRAM FOR A 258 6 CYLINDER--THE IGNITION WIRING IS REALLY SIMILAR (COLORS MAY DIFFER) JEEP USED A FORD SYSTEM FOREVER----I TOOK A BLAH B&W DIAGRAM TO "MS PAINT" AND COLORED THE WIRES---I EVEN HAD IT BLOWN UP AT A OFFICE SUPPLY STORE (IT'S 2 PIECES) LAMINATED TOGETHER.

I DO JEEPS--THAT'S MY THING, IF YOU WANT THIS DIAGRAM, LET ME KNOW----YOU CAN'T READ IT IN THIS PIC I MADE (JUST SHOWING YOU IT'S GIANT SIZE IN MY GARAGE!)

THE BEGINNING OF THIS LINK IS ALMOST THE SAME AS THE OTHER----LOOK AT THIS ANSWER ABOUT HALFWAY DOWN TO THE BOTTOM---THE SOLENOID AND FUSIBLE LINK PART IS WHAT I WANT YOU TO SEE!!!!!

https://www.2carpros.com/questions/1986-jeep-cj7-86-258-auto-tilt-wheel-turh-key-start-volt-drops-nothing-click-no

IN THE LINKS I SENT--NO CHEATING!!!---DO THE CONNECTIONS EVERYWHERE!
