I've seen a similar discussion on this but didn't see a final resolution. My car leaks on the front passenger side behind the glove box after it rains. It can be like a waterfall of water coming into the car. Was looking for most likely culprit.

Hi,

Check and see if your cabin air filter is wet. Sounds like your cowl drain is clogged causing the water to fill up the cowl and comes in the fresh air inlet of your HVAC housing.

Here is a video that shows how to remove the rubber one way valve. You can replace this, clean it, or leave it out as shown in the video. If you leave it out, it is possible to have water come in from the bottom while driving but it should not fill up the compartment any longer. If it were me, I would replace it but you should be fine if you want to leave it out completely.

Let me know if you have questions. Thanks

That fixed it! I was thinking I would remove the plug but I was able to clean it and now that I know and it is easy to fix, I'll keep an eye on things. I can't thank you enough for helping me fix this. I'd be happy to make a donation to the cause.
