Wire short / starter

The vehicle starts sometimes and then sometimes it doesn't. If the wire running to the solenoid ( I'm assuming that's the correct part) is wiggled then the vehicle starts more often than not. Would that be because of that ground running to the solenoid or because the starter is shot and hire to determine the difference? Thanks in advance.

if the wire is wiggled to solenoid then it may be a bad connection either the solenoid is bad or the connection
