In mid 2007 the Stero, NAV, and backup indictaor for my Volvo stopped working. In the fall I went to a Volvo dealer and they told me it needed a new ICM which would cost $1200. I was kind of surprised that that unit would go on a 2 year old car. Anyways, I didn't do anything right then and recently went to get a second opinion at another Volvo dealer. They told me the wire harness to the ICM was corroded and that a new one plus installation would be at least $3,300. What should I be asking the second dealership and who should I believe?

Sounds pretty weird. Did they check the MOST network for a break in the ring? The audio amplifier usually is the first to go causing the the fiber optic light to stop at the amplifier and can not complete its path. If that happens then you loose your nav and radio and if you have a dvd player will stop working. Another problem is the harness chaffing under the driver side seat. That can easyly be repaired using electrical tape and zip ties to reroute the harness and replacing any fuses that short could have done. If it is indeed the icm connector then I would push them a little harder to locate just the connector and terminals to cut and splice new connector. Usually the parts guys are lazy? Just dont tell them I said that LOL. Have them call there parts tech support to locate the connector.
