Odometer, engine light on 850 Turbo 1994 Volvo

1994 850 Turbo Volvo sedan, rides excellent, but engine light came on 2 days ago and stays on. The odometer is not working. I am seriously distressed about this. Does anyone know about how much it costs for an odometer 4 this type of Volvo -- all dealer told me is that it's very expensive and they couldn't check. Now I'm pissed I bought vehicle from private seller. Really like this car. Son told me odometer being fixed is no big deal. This is what happens to women, we get jerked! Am not rich. Could it b sensors or something simple? Or did I get taken? Pls answer asap. PJ

If the check engine light is on, you want to get that looked at ASAP. Take it to Auto Zone, they will run a FREE check and what ever code they come up with, write it down and post it here and I will tell you what that means. As for the odometer. I havent worked on a car like yours in a long time. Is the odometer digital?

:D thanks u guys 4 the answers/advice 4 my 94 850 turbo volvo. I took the car to volvo (didn't know I could've just went 2 auto zone). Going 2 talk 2 seller 2day. Now my a/c is not working, but volvo is supposed 2 t/c/o Monday and it is hot as fire in your face here in GA. Thanks 4 answering me it helped alot. PJ
