Computer problem
1996 Volvo 850 Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a Volvo 850 GLT. The Check Engine light keeps coming on. We have changed the Catalisy Converter and the Oxygen Sensor and it still comes on and will not pass emissions, does anyone know if there is a second oxygen sensor? We have had the car diagnosed after the oxygen sensor was changed and it keeps coming up stating that is the problem.

Hi yperez3508,

There are 2 O2 sensors. In front of catalytic converter and after it.

What was the code that was retrived?

Did you check the wiring circuits?

The Code we received was a P0172 (or something like that) They also discussed a possible air flow problem as well as the Canister Purge Valve. I'm really confused! Now, my car is consuming so much gas, I'm almost broke. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced that same problem.

Hi yperez3508,

P0172 = system too rich (Bank 1)

Too much fuel is getting to the cylinders. Check for faulty injectors.
