The code doesn't tell me a whole lot. Does that mean it needs a new distributor or could it be something else?

My daughter's VW died. The car won't start. I have some knowledge of car repair and I went to look at it. I scanned for a code it came up PO321 ignition/distributor.
The code doesn't tell me a whole lot. Does that mean it needs a new distributor or could it be something else?
