My van pulls to the left when I brake. Okay, when driving straight ahead. Right caliper very hot after driving (slow speed, straight ahead) for 10-15 minutes.

I believe that the piston on the right caliper is stuck in the brake-applied position. I tried to remove the caliper per the Dodge service manual:
- remove upper and lower retainer clips and screws;
- There are 2 Keys that hold the caliper in place. Dodge calls them "Adaptors". I tried to remove upper and lower Keys (they are supposed to slide in and out), but I cannot do it, even after tapping with a steel rod and hammer.
- Result: I cannot remove the caliper since the Keys/Adaptors (K/A) cannot be removed.

What caused the K/A to be stuck in place so hard? In my Ford Ranger, the K/A slides off easily when tapped.

Thank you.

Hi,

If the caliper piston on the right is stuck, it would make sense it will pull left when you apply the brakes simply because the left side will be doing more of the stopping.

I know the caliper piston needs to be depressed before it will actually come off. I attached the directions below for removing the caliper. Also, keep in mind, you could have a collapsed rubber flex hose to that caliper. You may want to open the bleeder to see if pressure is released and the caliper releases the brake pads.

In this situation, I would start by opening the bleeder to see if things come apart. If it loosens, replace the rubber flex hose. If there is no change, the caliper is the issue.

Take a look through the directions below and let us know if they help or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
