I have a potential vehicle listed above Impreza; the mileage seems relatively low. The problem stated is that the valves are bent because the timing belt snapped. There’s already a new timing belt kit ready but it has not been installed. This is everything stated what are the potential costs? And is it worth repairing or too much of a hassle?

Hi,

This is an interference engine. If the timing belt broke, there could be (as you mentioned) bent valves. It could have also damaged the cylinder head valve seats, tops of the pistons, or the cylinder walls if something physically broke.

So, where do I start? It may require an engine. However, in most cases, the heads are the only issue. You may find them in a salvage yard for a couple hundred each. New ones are close to 700 each.

Note that those new part prices do not include valves. It is the head only. See pic below

So, what is the condition of the rest of the vehicle? These vehicles are usually run hard which can lead to transmission issues, drive line issues, and so on. I don't know if you are familiar with the vehicle or not. If you are not, buyer beware. You may need several other things and repairs could double the car's value in good condition.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

joe
