I just bought this car a week ago and I found this hose. It goes to the underside of the car, where the previous owner apparently just smelted it, to keep it shut.

My questions are, what is it, what does it do and should I worry about it?

Good afternoon,

The previous owner removed the original air filter assembly for that air filter set up. The hose went to the air filter assembly. It is a breather line for fumes from the crankcase to be recirculated into the engine.

You can drive it that way but the correct repair is to get rid of that air filter, which does nothing, and install the original assembly.
