I have a mirror dashcam with a wire leading to the reverse power wire I the rear light cluster. I have used a mains tester to determine which is the power lead and only one lights the meter up, but when I select reverse I still get no image of the rear on the cam. Could another of the wires be the power wire but not light up the meter?

Hi Darren,

I am a little lost because I am not looking at the same wiring diagram you are. However, here is what I understand. You tested your wiring going to your cluster and found the wire for your reverse lights? You said "rear light cluster" but I am not sure what this means.

Then you said you found the wire that lights the meter but when you select reverse the image does not come on. Are you getting your meter to light when you are in reverse? Meaning, it only lights the meter when you shift to reverse?

Either way, what I would suggest, is getting your reverse information from the reverse light circuit. This means when you shift to reverse the lights that come on in the rear of the vehicle, just tap into those. Those are 12 volt feed wires and most back up cameras require a 12 v feed.

Hopefully this helps. If not, can you attach your wiring diagram that you are looking at and the instructions for the camera? I can review those so we are on the same page and then we can get this figured out. Thanks

Kenny

No, the meter lights when in any gear. By cluster I mean the housing for all the rear lights eg brake, reverse, night light, but it only lights up when I touch the blue/brown wire. So I am guessing that is the power source. Was instructed by seller to tap into the power source wire to enable rear camera, but when I select reverse the camera does not display what is behind me, it just stays on whats in front. The rear camera has four tiny lights, they do light up so I guess power is gong to it, but still no image on rear view mirror unit. Very confusing.

Okay. Is it possible to send me the name and model number of the camera you are installing? I want to look it up and see if we can figure something out on this. Thanks
