My trunk won't unlock/open with any button(s) unless I push down on the trunk, press the button and pull it at the same time. It's kind of tricky to sync up the steps but after a couple of attempts, I can get it to open.

With the trunk open, if I push the lock latch with a screw driver, keep it hard-pressed and then press the unlock button, the actuator doesn't unlock the latch, all I hear is just click. With the trunk open, if I don't apply any pressure on the latch lock, every time I lock with the screwdriver, press the button then it unlocks just fine.

I see on this car, actuator T2R15983 and latch T2R23305 are sold as separate units. My best guess is the latch lock should be still good and only the actuator motor is going bad, it's not able to produce enough torque to unlock the latch with trunk weight on it.

What's your opinion and recommendation in this case? How do I confirm what part is going bad? Any help in steps to replace the bad part?

Hi,

Chances are you are correct. However, you may be able to remove the lid latch motor assembly, clean it, and lubricate it. I have done that in the past and it works.

I attached the directions for replacing it. Note these assemblies aren't designed to be serviced, but if you take your time, you can do it.

If you simply want to replace it, I attached the directions below. Also, if you haven't tried lubricating it, do that first.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
