Every time I pull up to a light or anywhere and stop my car will act like it's going to shut off and sometimes it does. But most of the time it will catch itself and start idling normal again. It idles normal while I'm driving it only does it when I am coming to a stop. Is there something I can do to make it stop doing that?

Hi,

Based on your description, it could be a few things. Does the check engine light stay on when the engine is running? Next, there are two other common causes, an engine vacuum leak or a idle air control valve (IAC). The IAC is responsible for maintaining the idle speed. If it fails, it can do this.

Here is a link that explains how to check for a vacuum leak. Take a look through the link and let me know if it is something you feel comfortable doing.

Let me know what you find and if the check engine light stays on when the engine is running.

Take care and hope you have a good new year!

Hi, Brian.

You your EGR valve may be stuck open, Try cleaning the top end of your engine with (Top Engine Cleaner), A lot times the carbon and junk with get stuck around your throttle valve IAC motor, Build up on your valves it will stick open the EGR valve and PCV valve. You will a tool engine cleaner Tool. If your handy you can do this yourself. Take some carburetor cleaner spray it on a soft clean cotton rag and clean your throttle plate valve really good get all the carbon and dirt out from around the throttle plate, Warm your car up to operating temp, Hook your tool up to intake manifold vacuum slowly open the cleaner valve, The car with stumble but don't let it stall you have to hold your throttle open just a little bit try to keep it under 1000 rpm. Run all the top engine cleaner through it. Replace your spark plugs and Ignition wires air filter PCV valve, Fuel filter, air filter. And don't forget to change motor oil and filter.
