Hello,

I recently blew my engine on my car listed above GT model. So I got a new engine that had the same transmission in it as my car. The engine came with a new clutch kit already installed so I had no reason to get a new clutch. The transmission I was going to bolt to it had a clutch that previously would grind into all gears and it was very difficult to put it in first and second gear. So I removed the old clutch and the new one and compared them and the old one looked toast. So when I put all the components back together I didn’t have a clutch alignment tool so I had to leave it in the transmission attached to the throw out bearing and clutch fork and screw down the pressure plate as I put the transmission on the engine. So when I started the car everything worked fine but when I put it in first it’s as if it were still In neutral and the same for all the other gears. I took the CV axle out and turned the crank to see if it moved and it doesn’t move at all when the crank is turned. Anyone have any advice?

Good morning,

Did you remove the alignment tool before installing the transmission?

I didn’t have a alignment tool when I bought the engine. The clutch stuff was already installed and I removed it to compare the old one.

Okay, assuming it moved before, I would guess the transmission worked.

Did you use the new clutch?

Before the engine blew the transmission struggled going into gear I would stop at a stop light and I’d have to fight it to go into first gear. But when I bought the new engine it already had a clutch kit installed and I was told it was new and it looked fine so I decided I would use the one the engine had on it but I still wanted to compare the old one to the new one. so I took the clutch off and examined it and then I didn’t have a clutch alignment tool so I had to attach everything on the transmission and put the transmission on so I could bolt the clutch to the flywheel once I got the transmission attached. Everything worked fine but when I put it in gear none of it did anything. I have a video of another guy on YouTube that has the same issue as me and I’ll attach the link.

Okay, got the video.

You could still have a bad clutch with your symptoms.

Can you put it in gear without pushing in the clutch with the engine running?

Does the clutch pedal feel normal or does it feel free and no resistance?

It is pretty normal. I also drive a 2018 Kia Forte 6-speed and they feel the same.

Okay, then I think you have a bad transmission.

Even with a bad clutch, you should not be able to put it in gear with the engine running and not applying the clutch.
