My 5th gear is making a noice.I sent it to a transmision repair centre which reported that the whole 5th gear needs to be replaced. As it is damaged due to lack of oil. Question is the difference between the repair and new gearbox is apprx 3000. Is it wise to replace or repair at this mileage?

Well the problem was claimed to be lack of oil. It's quite common to rebuild a transmission and fixing it to get the same or better mileage than replacing with new. In your case just make sure to check fluids more often like at every oil change
