The car won't start. The fuel pump can be operated by shorting the open circuit relay controllled by the ecm. But even with the pump running the car won't start. It has 133000 mi. I believe it is a non interference engine. Valves wont hit if timing belt breaks.
My question is. How can I tell if the belt is not functioning?

Ps. I trouble shot the fuel pump power through the fuses and relays and then realized it was the ecm causing the open circuit relay to prevent power from getting to the fuel pump.
What signal would the ecm get to cause it to open the "open circuit relay"?

Which engine do you have?

A broken timing belt would result in fast cranking speed with no indication of any compression.

Remove the engine oil filler cap and note if the camshaft is turning while the engine is being cranked.

Another way to to get a compression test done.
