So I have a toyota sienna 2000 that I bought for my wife. It was in perfect aesthetic condition, but it must have been ridden hard because there is a lot going on under the hood. We started to hear noises when we were driving. More specifically we would here a series of popping noises upon acceleration and deceleration. We would hear the series popping when we accelerate initially (more pronounced if we accelerated rapidly) and then that was it you could slow down (without using the brake just coasting down) and accelerate again and you would not hear UNTIL you braked and you would hear a series of popping (the harder you braked the more pronouced they would be) but again if you braked heard the sound then let off you could brake again and not hear the sound again until you came to a stop and accelerated again starting the series all over. These noises are coming from the front end. My cousin said the a arm control bushings needed replacing and he said toyota no longer sells the control arm bushings alone we would have to buy the whole control arm for about $400 an arm. Screw that. I found replacement control arm bushings on ebay and had them put in. My cousin said the noise was the control arm hitting the frame now because the rubber bushings were cheap. I tend not to agree with him because there is a series of pops and wouldn't it make that sound EVERYTIME you accelerated of decelerated. So I went to the dealership to ask them if they have any experience with this and the guy was nice he drove around with me and pointed towards the motor mounts. I guess it is possible. There is also a sound, I don't know if it is related, but a clunking sound when you are driving at low speeds going over rough pavement. It sounds exactly like the clunking of a mini fridge as you are carrying it. So those are my problems let me know if you got any ideas. Thanks for your time and thoughts regarding these issues.

Ok from what you are saying. I would check the following and have it checked by a good front end shop. I would check the motor mounts, the front drive axles, the sway bar bushings and end links and the struts. Hope this helps.
