I have a 1992 toyota pick up. The engine is an 22RE 4 cylinder, Two wheel Drive. Can I replace the brushes on the alternator and when I do replace the brushes how much of the brushes should be exposed to the shaft of the alternator. If you can, could you draw out an diagram to show me or let me know of a site that I could get this info.

Don't come close to trying to repair a Toyota alternator. The problems could be the diodes and or brushes. Take it off and buy a rebuilt one. This is good advice from an old Totoyta mechanic.

Good Luck

I love conservative people, its the only way too learn BTDT many moons ago-now a days am spoiled I fix with replacement after a thorough diagnosis with high tech tools and testing equipment. Oh! Lord my back is killing me an old gizzard with brains.

Something tells me all you need is a little coaching. The brush is spring loaded just set it on it'll adjust itself.

Are you sure its the brush-better do full-fielding the alty to confirm what the regulator is doing.

Find the hole for the field terminal on the Alty then ground it-now observe the voltmeter if it goes in between 14-15 volts-if it does than you're fine and dandy-no need for brush or reman. Stuff. Keep on truckin.

On your side if all else fail-comeback and I'll give you block to block, step by step how to nail your problem.

I've been around when Toyota was Toyopet.
