Hello, Engine light came on the other day. Prior to the light, the motor shut off doing about 25-30 mph. I stopped and restarted then drove off. It seemed a little sluggish ( like dirty fuel filter, injectors?). I rented one of those autoscanners, and came up with a code P0171 wich turns out to be" system too lean". Where does one begin to fix the problem? Is it a costly process of elimination? Please respond asap Thanks.

You may have a vacuum leak, get a can of spray gumout, spray the vac lines and maniflod area, when the idle changes, youve found the leak! You want the engine running and spray on the outside but do direct the stream onto the hoses, if it is a vacuum leak, the engine idle will change speed, then you have detected a leak, repair the vacuum leak and see how it runs! Also don't forget to check, or change the PCV.
