1998 Other Toyota Models hilux 4X4 3ltd gearbox

Hi I have done a gearbox on my 1998 hilux and am looking at putting a recon or good 2nd hand one in . Do I have to get one of the same year? Or can I say use a 2003 model box and if so will other boxes drop straight in

Hi moonracker,

You cannot simply drop in any trans unit. The gear ratio has to be the same for the 4 x 4 if not you will bust it or the differentials when you engage 4 x 4.
