I took my car to the dealership and they told me that at 30,000 miles I needed to have it decarbonized as part of the maintenance. Exactly what are they talking about and is this something I can do myself. I do all the maintenance on the vehical but wasnt aware of how to do this.

This sounds very much like a line of crap to me. Modern vehicles do not suffer from ravages of carbon build-up, especially after only 28k miles. If there is an issue here, I believe it is if the person you are working with at this "dealership" is telling you the truth. Keep in touch and let us know the outcome, we are here for you mate ♥

To add to what the Dr. Said:

They will probably run some fuel system cleaner through it and charge you up the gazoo.

Many racers would remove a vacuum line (like MAP) and meter some distilled water through the engine to remove carbon, but I would be hesitant about this with an all aluminum engine.

In any event, a car that is properly tuned and is otherwise mechanically sound, should not have ANY significant carbon problem at 30K.

Water does work to remove carbon in the combustion chambers and to reduce detonation in forced induction engines. To have a Toyota with 30k on the clock with carbon build up is a bait and switch kind of tactic to relieve you of your $$$$$$$$$$$$$$
