Hi there, I have a 2003 toyota corolla and I have recently installed a remote car starter, I have noticed that when I use the remote starter my cranking is too long, so I brought it back to the installer, after I park my car into his garage and turn it off, my car wont start anymore. He checked all the fuses but everything is okay, whats happening is when you put it on Start(crank) position its only making a humming sound from the back(i think its the fuel pump, but is it the fuel pump only engage in ON position?) Anyway after like ten tries it started, but the following morning it wont start anymore, he said he encounter this before from GMs but not with toyotas, he said my ignition cylinder is shorting(like the ON position is shorting the Start(crank) position. Also I can pull out the key even in ACC, ON, and Start. Any suggestion I really appreciate it. THANKS A LOT

Yes, my advice is to take it back to him and either fix it, or remove it and give you your money back. And he will be held responsible for any damage HE caused.

Hi again, I tried again this morning and it didnt start, I look around for the starter and tap it, and it works, my car started, do you think the problem is the starter? Thanks again

Yes starter sounds like the brushes are bad or a loose connection.

My point is that the odds are high that this problem would happen after the remote unit was installed.
In other words, car starts Ok, take to get remote installed, car does not start? I would look to installer for fix.

If you can, remove starter and have it bench tested at most autoparts stores for free.

I have a 91 Corolla with the original Nippondenso starter.
