I have two questions. First, my wheel started shaking after my last tire rotation, once I reach about 60 mph. I assumed I needed an alignment - what else could cause my wheel to shake?

My second question is, I took my car in for an oil change and alignment. They quoted just over $100 for both. I then got a call that said the alignment is off so much they need to replace the 'cam bolt' (I guess the camber bolt?), And now my estimate is $250. This seems outrageously high. I told them just to do the oil change. They are still charging $40 for the 'diagnostic testing.' I'm furious. Am I correct that this place is taking advantage of me?

Hi Rindy,

If the steering wheel vibrates, it is due to road wheels out of balance and NOT alignment. Balancing would solve the problem unless the tires are bad or rims are bent.

Yes, they are trying to fleece you when it is mentioned that the camber bolts needs to be replaced.

Unless your vehicle has been in an accident which has caused some body measurements to be out of alignment, you DO NOT need any camber bolts. If anything is wrong, you need to replace part such as lower arm bushes, ball joints etc to solve the problem.

Get a new place to do future repairs.
