1998 Toyota Corolla 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 189000 kms
My Toyota corolla fitted with a 2e engine 1300cc carburated has being giving me alot of hell. all spark plugs get soaked and has a high fuel consumption a liter gives me 6 - 7 kms. Usually i get a hard start but once warm gives no prob recently changed head gasket & had valves grinded but situation has worsened I can't even drive it. The car has started backfiring from the carburator. I paid alot of money to different mechanics but not fix the prob. Please help .............?

You need to first check fuel pressure and compare that to spec.

Because your engine is modified, I won't know what those specs are, but generally, it should be around 7psi. Also, if equipped, check that the fuel pressure regulator isn't leaking (Including the vacuum line leading to it).

Next, check the float level of the carb. It should be centered and not allowing to much fuel into the float bowl.

Finally, check the idle mixture screws. You'll need to hook up a tach.
