I just bought this car and I don't know if the the transmission fluid has ever been changed, the tranny works fine but I like to keep clean fluids. My question is, assuming that the tranny fluid has never been changed in 170000 miles should I change it now.I have heard if it hasen't been changed regularly and the car has high mileage you should not change it or the tranny will go out if you do. Is this true

Hi there,

I would get the transmission serviced, this will help prolong the life of the transmission.

You easily check the texture of the fluid. If not too dark in color and not smelling burned. Its safe to change without any problems. BUT if it's dark and already smelling burned. DO NOT CHANGE the AFT
