1992 Toyota Corolla Warm car dies at idle, sluggish acceler

Once its warm (does not have troubles when cool), the car stalls at stops (similar to loss of power felt when AC is on). Upon acceleration, the car is sluggish and makes almost a "whirring" sound, which goes away once cruise speed is reached. Fuel filter has been replaced, spark plugs are new. Ideas?

No check engine light on the car (that would be far too fancy for this model! ;). I should also mention that the air filter is clean.
