1991 Toyota Corolla 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

How do you test and ignitor & pick up coil to identify a fault. What should I use. And what should the readings be.

Note: Checked with an ODB1 scnner and it gave a 13 code error.

Car starts, but RPMs do not increase above 1000 and emitts black smoke.

Please advise.

Thanks

Most autoparts stores can test the ign. Module. The problem lies with either the dist. Or ECM.

If module is bad you can buy a reman'd dist. W/module for less than the cost of module alone.
