1990 Toyota Corolla Smells like gasoline

Simple problem: When I rev beyond 5,000 rpm for too long, I can smell gasoline. I drive with windows down so I guess it's coming from the engine bay, but then when I was working on my car yesterday I cranked it to 5-6k rpm and I smell gasoline from the exhaust.

The only thing I can think of is that not all of the fuel is being burned when I rev hard.

Need some help, please. Thanks.

Sounds like its running rich due to the following:

Possible causes include a bad O2 sensor, excessive fuel pressure (bad fuel pressure regulator or plugged return line), leaky fuel injectors, dirty air filter or restricted air inlet, or a defective coolant sensor that prevents the engine management system from going into closed loop mode.

I don't have an 02 sensor.
I have to check those fuel lines then.
I don't have injectors since I have a carb, my air filter is quite new.
Can you elaborate more on the coolant sensor thing and the closed loop mode? I don't think my old school engine has that? Or I just don't know.
