Hi there I have a toyota celica 98 4 cylinder mileage 100,000. the brakes squeak. I got the brake pads changed at a local mechanic but there has been no change. this sound is not the loudest, but it can be really annoying especially in closed spaces like parking areas, where the sound when you step on the brake will sometimes be loud enough to wake up your grandmother. what is the problem?

G'day there,

The noise would normly be caused by the rotors being glazed, or hot spotted. This is as simple as having the rotors machined to remove the glazed surface, most work shops can do this ön car, and is quite cheap. The only thing to be aware of is the Rotor thickness, they have a Min thickness so make sure that they measure the rotors before machining, also ask the mechanic about the bed in required for the type of brake pads fitted.
