I went to start my 2000 Toyota Camry this am and the light on my radio got super bright. Also my engine sounded like it was knocking. Afterwards I smelled an electrial like burning smell. When I took it in to the dealeriship they told me that, my car need oil and 2, I needed a new engine. I change my oil every 3,000 miles. I find this hard to believe. Thanks for your input. Susan Litt

It is not enough to change your oil every 3000 miles. You have to check the oil dipstick every few days if the oil is on it's level especially when your car is over 50,000 miles. Also, check the oil dipstick when you get home after an oil change to see if the shop put the right amount of engine oil. Check your garage floor for oil leaks once in a while. Cars over 50.000 miles consumes oil a little, or sometimes there is an oil leak that you do not notice. Once the engine oil in the dipstick reaches the lower line, there is not sufficient oil to lubricate the engine causing these knocks and more in which the only solution is to replace the engine or engine overhaul.

Try to go to a different repair shop for a second opinion.
