Transmission problem
1999 Toyota Camry 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 160k miles

My toyota camry runs great, in reverse. In D, 2, or L it acts like it is in N. The first thing that happened is the heat gauge stopped working and showed cold all the time. Then gears started slipping as I pulled out of driveway, slightly up hill. Couldn't get out and forward gears stopped working completely. There were no awful grinding, scrapping, or breaking noises and the engine light does not come on. All I want to know is if there is any chance that I won't have to replace the transmission?

Hi there,

This is sounding like a failed transmission, but before spending any money I would be getting it checked by a transmission specialist for an exact diagnosis as there are a few tests that should be done first.
