Hi, and thanks for being here. Trying to replace the engine on my 1996 toyota camry. The engine we bought has no sensor. Will this make a differance with the crankshaft, or not. If so, what is the differance. Or do we need to get an engine that has the sensor too. Thanks in advance.

If your original engine got a crankshaft position sensor, your need to replace it with the same.

The Electronic Control Module (ECM) or your computer system in your car uses crankshaft position signal to determine the engine RPM, crankshaft position and engine misfire. The Crankshaft position signal combined with the camshaft position signal indicates the cylinder that is on compression and the ECM can determine from its programming the engine firing order. (Based on toyota repair manual)

In short, engine will not start without it.

Can you tell me what the differance is, and can I still put this engine in my car, and if so how? Thank you, and God bless
