Recently got a p2096 code on my fort edge 2.0 Ecoboost. I got it to reset and tonight I got it again. This time I got a p0420 code and p2096 code. I am thinking downstream O2 sensor, but before buying part want to make sure looking at correct thing, I read something about it possible purge valve. Also, where is the downstream O2 sensor located? I looked under car and couldn’t see it.

Hello,

The codes
P0420 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)
P2096 - Post Catalyst Fuel Trim System Too Lean Bank 1

These codes can get triggered due to a number of reasons. It could be faulty oxygen sensor, exhaust leak, leaking fuel injectors, faulty catalytic converter. It can also be due to wiring issues for the oxygen sensor.

The downstream sensor is located on the upper part of the pipe. You will have to remove the driveshaft to access it.

I have attached the diagnostics for the codes below for your reference.
Also attached is the oxygen sensor replacement procedure.

Let me know of any questions.
Thank you.
