So when the crank is on TDC both cams seem to be off by the same amount not only the sprocket but the camshafts codes p0016 and 17 car seems to drive okay on roads, but has a rough idle and will shut off if you don't keep the rpm's around 1,000.

Hello,

The only time that the timing marks will ever line up is when the timing chain/belt is first installed. After that it is just a stroke of pure luck that you will ever get the marks on the crankshaft sprocket and the camshaft sprocket exactly in the first timing position at the same time, but it is still in time. If you are concerned that the timing is off, the only way to be certain is to remove that timing chain/belt and start from scratch. If you are going to the trouble of doing this I would recommend installing a new timing belt and tensioner. In the diagrams down below I have included the instructions from the vehicle manufacturer for the removal and installation of the timing belt on your vehicle. Please go through this guide and get back to us with how everything turns out. We can go from there, if necessary.

Thanks,
Alex
