How can I tell if I me to replace timing chain or if I can just reset the timing with a timing light?

The only timing you need to change the timing chain is when there is an issue. Timing belts are the only thing you need to change as maintenance but you have a chain so that does not need to be changed until it has too.

As for resetting timing, you cannot use a timing light on this engine. That is for an engine with a distributor and you do not have that. I attached the process for replacing the chain and setting the timing if you need it.

Let me know if you have questions. Thanks
