So I just did head gasket, 2.3 car is running almost awesome, almost. After about thirty minutes when I stop and then go at a light, there is a slight hesitation and then bam, off like a rocket! I set the timing at T.D.C. And like I said it runs great and as well starts instantly. But when I put timing light on it shows crank pulley at about eighteen or just above the T.D.C. Mark on cover. Can I set cam at T.D.C. Setting, loosen belt, and then just take crank back towards the mark where timing light indicates? Just before T.D.C. Thanks for any advice on tweaking the timing if it can be done. Also it is a dual coil setup.

The timing on this engine is not adjustable but if it is not set on the timing marks properly then your total timing will be off.

You do have slightly too much advance in it but that will most likely not cause the issue you are seeing. If it were retarded to much then I could see that but 6 degrees advance will actually give you touch more power.

However, it is worth checking to make sure it is in time using the process below. If not, you can try and set it properly to see if this clears up.

Let us know what questions you have. Thanks
