So, the tensioner pulley decided to leave us on Christmas Eve. It took with it the hardware holding it in place.

I bought a new pulley, also a couple M10-1.50 Nuts, and went home to find the M10-1.50 nuts did not thread onto the stud. I went back and got M10-1.25 nuts and, while I seem to have gotten one on there, it doesn't seem to be correct. The tension on the belt has loosened back up, so it appears I am still not repaired fully.

What size nut and thread do I need for this? Is there a sleeve or bushing needed (as I obviously am not getting pressure from the nut to hold the pulley in place)? Do I need to wholesale replace the tensioner assembly? (Is that possible?)

Thank you for your time!

Good morning,

I attached two pictures. Could you tell me which one you have?

Also, since you installed the wrong nuts on the stud, it sounds like you will be replacing the tensioner assembly.

Hello, Roy. Thank you for your reply.

I have the second type. I may not need to replace though, as I didn't force them or cross thread. When it didn't feel right, I stopped. So, I am praying here!

Did you try a 3/8 course nut? Some of the manufacturers use SAE bolts and nuts on the accessories.

No, but I will try that. LOL, I have rebuilt a number of air cooled VW's before and been aggravated to find SAE nuts and bolts on them occasionally. Never even thought to try one on this. I will grab a couple on my way back to the house and let you know what I find. Thanks!

Good morning, Roy!

So, what ended up happening is that it appears to be a 3/8 fine thread, but by then I decided I was over it. I was able to re-thread the stud for the M10-1.25, used a flat washer and lock washer, and re-torqued to spec. I so wish that I had asked you first so I would have tried SAE and saved myself the trouble, but having experienced it, I will not forget!

Have a fantastic new year and God bless!
