My temperature gauge stopped working and read 0 and the radiator fans ran continuously even after the engine was shut off. Fans would stop 3 minutes or so after the engine was shut off. Replaced the temperature sensor and still wouldn’t read a temp and fans continue to run. The next day 15 minutes into driving gauge works and fans shut off. Everything works fine for 10 days or so. Then temp gauge stopped working and fans ran continuously. Did this for three days then started working as normal again. Could it be the plug for the sensor or one of the wires? Or am I completely going in the wrong direction?

Hi,

Based on the description, it does sound like a connection issue. When you replaced the sensor, did you inspect the connector and connector pins for damage or even corrosion? Also, I want you to try something. When the gauge is at 0 and the fans are running, jiggle the wire at the sensor to see if it starts working.

Try this and let me know what happens. And no, I don't think you are going in the wrong direction. I feel the same.

Take care,

Joe

I checked the plug, and it looked fine to me. I will try this weekend cleaning the connectors and wiggling the wires. Thank you for your advice.

Hi,

Sounds like a plan. I have had a wire fail internally under the insulation. One minute we had contact and not the next. It's possible for this to have happened as well.

Let me know what you find. I'm interested in knowing.
