2004 Suzuki Grand Vitara Rear wiper arm

I have a question regarding the rear wiper arm on my Grand Vitara. Is it difficult to tighten the arm as it is quite floppy and it fails to engage the rear wiper arm motor? I imagine that I would have to remove the spare tire from the outside rear before proceeding on tightening the arm?
