2001 Subaru Outback cold weather

When I start my car in the cold it idles rough for a bit and the engine light comes on, I get a smell after a bit of driving, not really a smell I recognize but a bad one non the same. I have taken in into the shop twice and both times the light is no longer on and they can find nothing wrong with it.

My car has been doing something similar. It will stall out when I start it up when its cold. The check engine light has not been on yet though. After you get it started do you have any other problems?

Other then a musty smell from the engine it runs fine then after a day or so the light goes out and is fine for a week or so till it happens again
