I've bought new plugs and thought (naively) that it would be a fairly simple matter to install them. They seem to buried under the tubes and hoses of the engine. Would my best bet be to jack the car up & try to do this from the underside? (I've only had this car for 6 months. So am just now trying to service the minor stuff on my own.) Thanx for any help.

You can do this from the top. Having a set of locking extensions is a great help. You may also have to remove a few things to gain access. Just as a friendly note: don't put in whatever the parts guy hands you. I have found that NGK plugs work the best with Subaru.
