Transmission stuck in reverse

I have a 1993 Subaru Impreza with 125, 00 miles. I was tring to start the car and had a dead battery as I was tring to move it out to get a boost the transmission stuck in Reverse. The shift lever will move but nothing happens with the postion of the transmission. Is there anything that would cause this to hapen. By the way it was very cokd for the last few weeks.

Take off the boot gaining access to see if the lever is out of the socket or anthing come loose. Underneith the car you can see the shift arm in the middle of the car. Check making sure everthing is connected.
