My 94 145000 miles Impreza seems to have a small oil leak somewhere. When you open the hood you can smell burning oil, as if oil is dripping on something hot. It runs good, no overheating, uses hardly any oil. I have tried to see where it is leaking from, but so far I haven't found it.

This smell is a leaking rocker cover gasket
the result is oil dripping onto the exhaust which produces a lovely smell!

It won;t use much oil only around 1 teaspoon every oil change

the cost to have this gasket replaced is only around $120 new zealand dollars plus around $ 40 nzd per gasket - for genuine ones this is a very reasonable labour charge considering what has to come off to get att it.

It is also a wise idea to replace both at the same time

hope this helps

if I were you i'd get your closest subaru dealer to do it as they will ensure that every thing is tightend properly.

Thanks
