Just bought a '06 Subaru Outback Wagon 2.5i After driving it the first time I noticed it smells like its running hot. I notice this after shutting down and getting out. I can also here that crackling sound from the engine when its off. Should I be concerned? Do all cars make that sound? I know my Honda doesn't.

Hi there,

There is a great deal of tin work around the subaru exhaust system, so there is a bit of noise and movement when it cools down, as for the smell, you may have a small oil or coolant leak dripping onto the exhaust. have a good look around and see if you can identify any leaks, if in doubt take it to your mechanic for an inspection.
