1996 Subaru Legacy Gushing water sound

When I accelerate I hear the noise of gushing water. The engine appears to smell hot but temperature gauge doesnt indicate a problem. I have checked oil for milkyness and the coolent for traces of oil but all seems fine. Does anyone have any ideas thanks

Hi there,

You may well have an air lock in the heater core, I would replace the thermostat and flush the cooling system, when bleeding the air out of the cooling system try taking off a heater hose and filling the core with water first re fit one hose and loosely fit the other, as the system is warning up try and allow any trapped air out of the loose hose and re tighten.
